By Preshias Harris
My column, Inside Track on Music Row, is posted every month at Nashville Music Guide with dozens of news items about the recording artists, songwriters, record labels and the industry ‘movers and shakers’ that are the heart and soul of Music City.
Here is a quick ‘sneak peek’ at just a few of the items you’ll find in the October column. Meanwhile, you can read the entire September column, complete with audio and video links, here at Nashville Music Guide.
Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde join voices on cheating song
Two powerful songstresses – Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde – have combined forces, and the ravaged country tradition of the ‘hard truth cheating song’ is reignited with the brand-new single “Never Wanted To Be That Girl.” Watch the lyric video here.
Written by Pearce, McBryde and co-producer Shane McAnally, the clarity bomb is sung from the perspective of two women – the single girl thanking the guy who helped change her flat tire and the wife at home – discovering the man they’re involved with has someone else. The shattering truth in a text – for McBryde – and the reality of where he’s been when he gets home – for Pearce – finds the two women reeling as they consider their own blind spots in a painfully sobering moment.
“Nobody ever thinks it will happen to them,” Pearce explains. “You never see it coming, but there’s always an explanation. You know, who’d ever want to think that way about someone they love. Why would you? And so, that’s where this song started: the things you don’t see, because you’d never look.”
Dallas Remington honors “American Soil”
As Americans continue to struggle with day-to-day issues both personally and as a nation, Dallas Remington, has released “American Soil,” a heartfelt patriotic tune in honor of and in tribute to the U.S.A. The song was performed live at Freedom Jam in Eureka, MO on August 28 and is now available digitally. The song was penned by Dallas Remington and Courtney Bumbacher with production, engineering and mixing by Corey Lawson at Claw Sound Studios and was mastered by Harold Larue Mastering in Nashville. “American Soil” is available for digital streaming and download here.
When Dallas Remington and Courtney Bumbacher got together to write on July 9th, 2021, it was on their hearts to write a patriotic song. The pair of female songwriters wanted to write a song expressing how thankful they are to the men and women who have dedicated their lives to serve and protect the United States of America. Before the day was over, “American Soil” had been created. Despite the differences we have here in America, to live and be raised on American Soil is truly a blessing. Updates here.

Weekends “look a little acoustic’ for Brett Young
Brett Young returned to his Southern California roots with the launch of his inaugural Caliville Weekend in August in Palm Springs. Set against scenic backdrops, Young’s three-day resort takeover featured main stage performances by Chase Rice, Maddie & Tae and Young, along with additional performances by Devin Dawson, Seaforth, Filmore, Keaton Simons, Noah Needleman, Matt Ferranti, DJ Hish & DJ Coral. Presented by Pollen, festival-goers were treated to nonstop action from daytime pool parties, BBQs and golfing with Young. Kohl’s provided gift bags to the first ten guests at check-in and to winners of the golf scramble. As the exclusive retailer of Young’s Caliville lifestyle apparel, Kohl’s also provided attire to Young and his band. In conjunction with the hitmaker’s inaugural festival, he released
Weekends Look a Little Acoustic These Days (BMLG Records) — featuring fresh, stripped-down versions of the songs from his latest collection including current single “Not Yet.” Listen to the project here and see more about Brett here.
Graciela inspires with “Best Days”
Breakout, indie pop recording artist Graciela (Gr8 Entertainment) will release her sophomore single, and self-penned original titled “Best Days” via all digital retail outlets and streaming platforms on Friday, October 22, 2021. (Pre-sale/Pre-save event begins Friday, October 15, 2021.) Listen or pre-save here. The sentimental tune, written by Graciela alongside Laura Cavacece and James Nickle, and produced by Bryan Cole, serves as a coming-of-age example of the 14-year-old songwriter’s sensitive and mature introspection, and her devotion to use her voice to share words of encouragement, and her bright and insightful perspective with others.
Deriving inspiration from her siblings who suffer with disabilities, the single delves into the teenage artist’s compassion and care for loved ones cherished. The soundscape of the track echoes with angelic vocals to paint imagery of blue skies that open to new possibilities and a hand holding, walk-along journey toward a better tomorrow. Graciela strives to become a role model for the disadvantaged. She says, “I want to be an inspiration to those who suffer; to let them know that I am here, and I am listening,”
Margo Price joins Fergie for a glass of “Chardonnay”
David Ferguson—one of Nashville’s great musical treasures and a living legend for his work as a Grammy award winning recording engineer, studio owner, video game soundtrack composer, and collaborator with the likes of Johnny Cash, John Prine, and Sturgill Simpson—has taken a long overdue step into the spotlight with his new album Nashville No More.
Available everywhere now via Fat Possum Records, Nashville No More presents Ferguson, aka Fergie, at the very top of his game. “Chardonnay,” the album’s final single, features the man himself joined by outlaw country’s great asset, Margo Price, lending her voice to a country-meets-bossa nova feel. “Chardonnay was there to comfort me during the recording of this record,” says Fergie. “I’m forever thankful to Roger Cook for having the good sense to write a beautiful love song to a glass of wine. Listen to “Chardonnay” here and buy/stream here. Sturgill Simpson says: “The Ferg is a bona fide card-carrying legendary hillbilly genius and when he talks you better shut up and listen.”
