ALBUM NEWS
JASON BOLAND & THE STRAGGLERS

JASON BOLAND & THE STRAGGLERS: Texas-via-Oklahoma band Jason Boland & The Stragglershave released their new album The Last Kings of Babylon, out now via Thirty Tigers. Listen / play Last Kings of Babylon here. The album marks a full circle moment for the band as they reunite with legendary producer Lloyd Maines, who produced the band’s debut album Pearl Snaps.
The release of The Last Kings of Babylon arrives on the heels of the band’s 25th anniversary. A quarter of a century ago, Boland and his Stragglers cemented themselves in the alt-country and Red Dirt scenes with the release of their 1999 breakthrough Pearl Snaps. Hailed by the New York Times as “one of the country scene’s most multidimensional songwriters,” Boland would go on to sell more than half a million albums and collaborate with Shooter Jennings and Robert Earl Keen over the course of his career.
In 2024 alone, Boland and his band mounted a 30-date anniversary tour, released a live album Live From Cain’s Ballroom, and cemented their status as one of the pillars of the Red Dirt movement with “The Boys of Oklahoma” concerts which have sold over 180,000 tickets. JASON ISBELL

JASON ISBELL has released his first entirely solo acoustic album, Foxes in the Snow, out now via his own Southeastern Records. Listen/play Foxes in the Snow here.
Foxes in the Snow was recorded in New York City at the famed Electric Lady Studios in October 2024. Recorded entirely on the same all-mahogany 1940 Martin 0-17 acoustic guitar, and in the span of just five days, the album captures an artist at the peak of their powers; the virtuosic guitar playing and commanding vocal delivery on this collection is some of the most impressive of an already remarkable recording career. Isbell is one of the most highly lauded songwriters of his generation, and this stripped back, bare-bones format puts his immense talent for evocative storytelling and the complete mastery of his craft on full display.
This release marks Isbell’s first new music since the award winning Weathervanes, with his band The 400 Unit, in 2023. Isbell’s breakthrough solo album, Southeastern, was released in 2013 and spawned a modern classic in “Cover Me Up”. Since then, he has gone on to win six Grammy Awards and broken records as the first artist to ever take home the trophy for Best Americana Album three times. Throughout Arcadia’s ten transcendent songs, produced by Alison Krauss & Union Station, beautiful and tragic stories unfold, as they reflect upon hard truths of history and the lives of those who have come before. The members of Union Station are a team of virtuosos, all with thriving solo careers. JUNIOR SISK

JUNIOR SISK: Beloved bluegrass troubadour Junior Sisk pays tribute to home and heritage in his heartfelt new single and studio video, “Sweeter Than Tupelo Honey”—the debut release from his new label, Turnberry Records. Listen / play to the track here and watch the video here.
Written by Bob Minner & Frank Ray, this soul-stirring song is a tribute to the simple joys of country life—one that many long for but too often leave behind. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of Mama’s biscuits in an iron skillet, Daddy’s tobacco barn, running coon dogs through the holler, and late nights picking bluegrass with old friends. But as Sisk sings, “It’s a doggone shame today… it’s fadin’ fast away, that country kind of life I dearly love. My rural ways of raisin’ are the memories I’m tastin’…sweeter than Tupelo honey on my tongue.”
“When I first heard ‘Sweeter Than Tupelo Honey,’ I put a hold on it right away,” says Sisk. “The song just struck a chord with me—telling the story of a country boy like me trying to make it in a city somewhere. I adore my life in the country and every memory of my rural way of raising, and I can’t imagine life any other way! I really like this song, and I hope everyone else does, too.”

Directed by Logen Christopher of Stormlight Pictures, the video follows outlaw Onoleigh as she finds herself captured by a ruggedly handsome sheriff. A bold fusion of modern Nashville country and LA pop production, First Rodeo has cemented Onoleigh’s status as one of country music’s most exciting new voices. Cutting her teeth on cover songs for tourists, she learned to command a crowd with her stunning vocals and undeniable presence. In the writing room, Onoleigh spent the next few years finding her voice as a songwriter and carving out a niche that is distinctly her own. More at Onoleigh’s website. #Onoleigh
SHANE SMITH & THE SAINTS

SHANE SMITH & THE SAINTS share the new single “1,000 Wild Horses,” off their new album Norther (listen/play here), which is available now via Thirty Tigers/Geronimo West Records. Norther is the Austin-based group’s first album in five years and showcases the full spectrum of their style that seamlessly blends elements of country, Americana, Southern rock, folk, and a little honky-tonk with soaring four-part harmonies and Smith’s striking baritone vocals.
On “1,000 Wild Horses” Smith shares, “This song touches on a more strange, but real side of life. It’s a storyline addressing realms beyond what we can see with the naked eye. The character is confused about what they’d just experienced and tries to make sense of it; yet comes back to an epiphany of love for their partner. ‘I saw lightning turn to flame and colors I can’t explain. I saw 1,000 wild horses in the sky.’”
With four independent albums under their belt and a constant tour schedule, Shane Smith & The Saints built their career with bricks and mortar. They abide by a blue-collar work ethic, maintaining a high level of integrity, delivering a fiery live performance, and making lasting connections with a fanbase that is rapidly expanding. OPRY NEWS: Can the Grand Ole Opry really be 100 years old? Why, the sprightly ole gal doesn’t look or sound a day over ninety-nine! Or even fifty, for that matter. All this year, the Opry will be celebrating the 100thanniversary of its first broadcast on November 28, 1925, initially titled The WSM Barn Dance. The show quickly acquired its current name in 1927 when George Hay, the show’s host, uttered these words: “For the past hour, we have been listening to music largely from Grand Opera, but from now on, we will present ‘The Grand Ole Opry’.” And the rest, as they say, is history.

BRANDI CARLILE & ELTON JOHN

BRANDI CARLILE & ELTON JOHN: “Swing For The Fences,” the new song from Elton John and Brandi Carlile, a life-affirming, joyous track, is the latest offering from Elton and Brandi’s recently announced collaborative studio album Who Believes In Angels?, released April 4 via Interscope Records. Listen to the song here and order the album here.
“Swing For The Fences” is both a euphoric slice of rock ‘n’ roll, and a defiant and proud anthem. Speaking on the track, Brandi says: “’Swing For The Fences’ was a little gem I took into the studio with me: I’m a gay woman, Elton’s a gay man and we both have families, and our dreams have come true. I was thinking, wouldn’t it be cool to write an anthem for young gay kids out there that calls them into a bigger, more elegant, more fabulous life. Just like ‘go, go! don’t let anything hold you back!’.”
Elton adds: “When we recorded ‘Swing For The Fences,’ it was the moment that crystallized where the album was going. It was hard to get to that point, but we knew we had to rise to the occasion and we all just felt this massive sense of joy and euphoria. After our initial difficulties, all the uncertainties started to dissipate when this song came together. It just sounded great.”

You can read more on what this song means to her in the People Magazine exclusive here.

MADDIE RICCARDO

MADDIE RICCARDO: Ascendant Nashville-based singer/songwriter Maddie Riccardo kicks off 2025 with the release of her evocative single, “Barstool”, produced by Simon Jay, out April 25th. Pre-save “Barstool” here. A bittersweet country anthem steeped in melancholic twang and laced with radio-ready hooks, the track captures the ache of dating in a town where the whiskey flows easier than commitment. Penned by Riccardo, the lyrics are raw and reflective, spotlighting the Peter Pan-syndrome men that haunt Nashville’s “small town, big city” dating scene. “It ain’t been easy here in Tennessee,” she sings. “Can’t find a good man who can love me / The whiskey’s more neat than the guys I see / Won’t marry or they already have a ring.”
Riccardo reflects, “After spending a couple of months working at a bar downtown, I witnessed some unforgettable moments that sparked the inspiration for ‘Barstool.’ It’s also a reflection of the conversations I have with friends about the challenges of dating in Nashville, where it seems like everyone’s out on Broadway, always looking for the next thing.”
At her core, Maddie Riccardo simply wants the world to know her—her feelings, her talent, and her vibe. “I am just a regular girl who writes music, and that’s about it,” she humbly advises. More about Maddie Riccardo on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
BRYAN RUBY

BRYAN RUBY: Rising country artist and award-winning songwriter Bryan Ruby released his latest single, “Growin’ On Me,” March 28, with the music video premiering exclusively with CelebSecrets. Click to watch here. Co-written with Chad Sellers and Ben Klick, the high-energy country anthem with a rock edge is a heartfelt reflection on how time reshapes dreams, balancing restless ambition with the quiet pull of home, love and stability. Blending nostalgia and self-discovery, the song embraces the idea that growth doesn’t mean giving up on the future — it just might look different than expected. Listen to “Growin’ On Me” here.
”‘Growin’ On Me’ is about chasing what’s next while staying true to where you come from. Spring is all about new beginnings, and I’m in a season of planting seeds for the future—personally, musically, and in life,” says Ruby. “It’s got that country rock energy I love, but the heart of it is pure roots. Can’t wait for y’all to hear it.”
With over 40 cuts to his name, including Billboard’s “Must Hear” artist Don Louis’ “Watered Down Whiskey”, Ruby has established himself as a standout songwriter in country music. His work has landed on the Texas Country Top 50, the iTunes Country Top 25 (#16), and has been recognized by the John Lennon International Songwriting Prize, where he was a finalist in 2023. LAUREN WATKINS

LAUREN WATKINS: Music City’s own Lauren Watkins has just released her latest single “Lose My Cool” (Songs & Daughters / Big Loud Records), her first track of 2025, following her debut 17-track album The Heartbroken Record released last year. Play / listen to “Lose My Cool” here.
The new track captures that exhilarating moment when you finally let your guard down for the right person. Watkins says the track is inspired by her relationship with hubby Will Bundy who shares writing credit with Watkins alongside powerhouse country scribes Rodney Clawson and Nicolle Galyon. The song has been described as striking the perfect balance between fierce independence and irresistible connection.
Billboard has described the “effortlessly smoky quality to Watkins’ voice, with a style of direct-yet-poetic songwriting reminiscent of Kacey Musgraves or Miranda Lambert.” Watkins hit the road hard in 2024, touring fairs, festivals and opening stadium shows for Morgan Wallen internationally on his One Night At A Time Tour. Keeping the momentum going this year, she’s sharing stages with Riley Green, Zach Top and Lainey Wilson while releasing new music starting with the not new track “Lose My Cool.” Find Lauren Watkins’ tour and ticket info here and follow her on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.
LAINEY WILSON

LAINEY WILSON: Almost single-handedly, Lainey Wilson has made bell bottoms “a thing” again. The flared pants quickly became identified with Lainey and the Wild Horses who are members of her official fan club.
On April 3, Lainey dropped this message to her ‘Stable’ of fans: “I always said if I opened a bar on Broadway it would be called Bell Bottoms Up. In honor of National Bell Bottoms Day this weekend, tonight at midnight, y’all will get to hear the song that has become the anthem of my bar, I hope you love it.” Pre-add / pre-save / listen to “Bell Bottoms Up” here.
And, yes there IS a National Bell Bottoms Day, celebrated on April 5. You can even design your own bell bottoms, according to Lainey’s post at Instagram, and submit your flared concepts. Or maybe wear your creations to Lainey Wilson’s Bell Bottoms Up Bar and Restaurant in Nashville.
